Disc brake assembly and suspension under vehicle wheel arch

What drivers usually want to know

Braking Distance & Suspension Safety

Your brakes and suspension work as a team to keep you on the road. When you slam the brakes, worn shock absorbers allow the car's weight to pitch forward, taking pressure off the rear tyres and adding up to 20% to your stopping distance.

What you are actually paying for

What is included

Shorter page, clearer answers. These are the parts of the job most drivers care about before they book.

Brake pad & disc replacement

Worn pads and scored discs replaced with quality parts to restore safe stopping distances.

Brake fluid check & renewal

Old fluid absorbs moisture and reduces braking performance — we test and replace when needed.

New tyres fitted, balanced, and pressures set to manufacturer specification.

Wheel alignment check

Misalignment causes uneven tyre wear and pulling — corrected to factory settings.

The honest explanation

Brake Repairs — Pads, Discs & Fluid

Brakes are the one system you cannot afford to ignore. Worn pads can add significant distance to your stopping distance — the difference between a near-miss and a collision. If you hear squealing, grinding, or feel vibration or pulling when braking, those are clear signs that something needs attention.

We inspect pads, discs, callipers, brake lines, and fluid condition. If work is needed, you get a clear quote covering exactly which components need replacing and why. We fit quality parts that meet manufacturer specifications, and most brake jobs are completed the same day.

How we handle it

How We Handle Brakes & Suspension

1

Inspection

We inspect brake pads, discs, lines, caliper sliders, springs, and suspension bushes.

2

Fixed Price Quote

We calculate parts and labor, providing a fixed quote. We always recommend replacing axle pairs together.

3

Precision Fitting

We install quality pads, discs, or springs, using correct torque settings and slide lubricant.

4

Road Test

We test drive the car to bed in the brakes and check for noises, ensuring perfect stopping safety.

Common questions before booking

Tyres — Fitting, Alignment & Tread Checks

Tyres are your only contact with the road, and their condition directly affects grip, handling, and safety. The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, but grip starts to drop noticeably below 3mm — especially in wet conditions.

Uneven tyre wear is a common sign of alignment issues, suspension wear, or incorrect pressures. If your tyres are wearing faster on one edge, or the car pulls to one side, an alignment check can identify and correct the problem before you need premature replacements.

We supply and fit tyres from trusted brands, handle balancing, and set pressures to your vehicle’s specification. If you are unsure which tyres suit your car, we can advise based on your driving and budget.

Suspension & Steering Repairs

Suspension problems often creep up gradually. You might notice clunking or knocking over bumps, a softer or bouncier ride than usual, the car drifting or pulling under braking, or uneven tyre wear. Any of these can point to worn shock absorbers, springs, drop links, bushes, or control arms.

We inspect the full suspension geometry — checking for play, leaks, cracks, and wear across all major components. If repairs are needed, we explain what is worn, how urgent it is, and give you a clear quote. Where possible, we prioritise safety-critical items and let you know honestly if anything can safely wait.

Suspension faults are also a common MOT failure category, so if your test is coming up, a pre-check can save you the inconvenience of failing and rebooking.

They are friendly, knowledgeable, and most important honest company. I took my car to them after being told by another local garage, that I needed my front calipers replacing, as well as discs and pads. They quoted £1100 + vat. Which is crazy for a 13 y/o kia. The Motor Medics checked the calipers are fine, discs and pads for nearly £1000 less. Great work and communications at all times. I cannot recommend them enough.

Very happy with the service. Their quote was £200 cheaper than the garage that did my MOT and they were able to do it far quicker. Very pleased and thankful

So happy with the service recently received from these three amazing guys. Having never heard of them (despite living nearby!) but reading excellent reviews on a local village facebook page, I decided to give them a go … and im just so glad i did! They diagnosed & fixed my poorly little cars multiple problems. A tiny glitch occurred not long after the major repairs, which they kindly sorted in minutes with no drama. Im so happy to have finally found a decent, trustworthy & professional mechanic, who i can rely on. Location and convenience of appointments also fits in with my work/life 🤩HIGHLY RECOMMEND🤩

FAQ

Brake & Suspension FAQs

How often should I change my brake pads?+

Pads typically last between 25,000 and 50,000 miles depending on driving style. We recommend checking them during every service, or immediately if you hear squealing.

Why should I replace suspension components in pairs?+

Replacing springs or shocks in pairs across the same axle keeps the car's handling and height even. Replacing only one side can cause uneven tire wear and unstable steering.

What causes a squealing sound when braking?+

Most modern brake pads have a small metal tab (wear indicator) that starts scratching the disc when the pad material is very thin. This produces a squeal to warn you it's time for a replacement.
